Sony has just announced the new full-frame<\/span> a7R III<\/a> <\/span><\/strong>mirrorless camera, a follow-up to<\/span> the highly acclaimed a7R II<\/a><\/strong><\/span> that<\/span> set new standards for sensor quality<\/strong><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Inside the a7R III is a 42.4-megapixel back-illuminated full-frame Exmor R CMOS sensor. Despite its high megapixel count, the a7R III is fast<\/em> with a continuous shooting speed of up to 10fps with full AF\/AE tracking \u2014 this is twice as fast as the 5fps offered by the a7R II.<\/span><\/p>\n

Using either the mechanical shutter or the completely silent shooting mode, you can capture a burst of up to 76 JPEG\/RAW photos and 28 uncompressed RAW files. In live view, you can shoot at 8fps with minimal viewfinder\/LCD lag.<\/span><\/p>\n

The updated BIONZ X processing engine can also process images 1.8 times faster than the a7R II. While a batch of photos is being written to the memory card, many of the camera\u2019s key features are still usable \u2014 things like the Function and Menu buttons as well as image playback and organization.<\/span><\/p>\n

Compared to the a7R II, the new a7R III also features new technologies \u2014 a gapless on-chip lens design and anti-reflective sensor coating \u2014 to achieve better low-light performance and wider dynamic range. The a7R III features an ISO range of 100-32000 (expandable to 50-102400) and a ginormous 15-stop dynamic range at low ISOs.<\/span><\/p>\n

Inside the camera is also a 5-axis optical image stabilizer that provides 5.5 stops of compensation \u2014 the world\u2019s highest ever for an image stabilization system in a full-frame camera.<\/span><\/p>\n

Utilizing this stabilization system is the new Pixel Shift Multi Shooting mode, which the a7R II didn\u2019t have. When activated, the a7R III captures 4 separate photos shifted by 1-pixel each to capture 169.2 megapixels of data. These are then composited in Sony\u2019s new Imaging Edge software to create a single photo with \u201coverwhelming resolution\u201d and an \u201cunprecedented level of color accuracy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
